M & S - St. John's New Years Eve Wedding
I met Sharon and Michael back in the fall for some engagement pictures at Cape Spear. During their session I could see how head over heels in love they were – which made my job so easy. And I was so excited to shoot their New Year’s Wedding in St. John’s.
A few days before their wedding they were calling for a huge snowstorm – which if you’ve ever lived in Newfoundland you know it could be terrible out or just a few flurries falling. Luckily we only got a few centimeters of snow that night and the roads were perfect to head downtown St. John’s to the LSPU hall. Normally for weddings I start with the getting ready and usually it is sometime in the morning. For this wedding, we arrived at ten at night and arrived to cocktail hour. Sharon wore a blue dress as she mingled with guests while Michael was already sporting his seal skin vest and tie for the ceremony. In the background was a slideshow of pictures of their relationship while some beautiful music was playing. To keep things super unique they had the speeches before the ceremony. Some friends sang songs while others said a few words to the bride and groom to be.
After the speeches guests were told to head upstairs to the theatre for the main event. While they headed up I went with Sharon and her maid of honor to get ready. Sharon got dressed in a crowded storage room that was full of chairs and other things that belonged to the theatre. It was so laid back and told me so much about the kind of person Sharon was. She wore a simple short white dress with seal skin boots to match Michael. From there I headed upstairs to capture the main event.
Their ceremony was a beautiful production and felt like you were a part of something truly magical. They decided to get married right before New Years and had a countdown to midnight which was also their first kiss. It was one of the coolest experiences I have had the pleasure of photographing and I am so glad I was a part of it.
After the ceremony we did a few pictures inside and outside and then they got back to partying the night away. All in all it was such a beautiful evening and I am so glad we were a part of it.
Head to the bottom for the amazing vendors.
