Sugarloaf Trail Surprise Proposal

Romantic surprise proposal along the east coast trail in St. John’s

December of last year I received an inquiry from Charity who was looking for a photographer to capture her surprise proposal to her girlfriend in the Spring with Newfoundland’s incredible scenery as the backdrop. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a few surprise proposals, but never one that was booked so far in advance. As someone who is terrible at keeping secrets, I was so impressed at C for planning to keep a secret for so long. We booked in a date for Spring and kept in contact in between to set up a plan. She wanted to propose at the beginning of the session to get rid of all the nerves and so that K could have her ring on for the photos.

The day arrived and the weather was perfect. C had given K her credit card and told her to go pick out a new outfit and said she was planning a date night out. When they arrived and saw me with a camera, she thought that the surprise was a couples session. I did my best to not give away the surprise lol And we headed out to a spot I thought would be perfect. The plan was for me to say I was setting up my gear for the best light and asked them to face opposite directions. Then C got down on one knee and they had the sweetest proposal. I’m a sucker for a good love story and was fighting back tears as they celebrated together.

After all the excitement we explored the suglarloaf trail and took in the incredible views of the Atlantic.

It was such a pleasure to be part of such a special moment.
